On November 18, 2000, Amy Cheung, Nar Dong, Helen Han, Charlene Ho, Eunice Lee, Daphuong Nguyen, Yei-Yu Sun, Misa Tang, and Marie Tongol came together to establish what is now known as the Theta Charter at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Over twenty years later and 192 SYZters strong, we have remained to sustain the same vision, mission, and goals as our Charters as well as our Founding Mothers. We continue to work diligently to balance our academic lives with our passion to fulfill our due service to the local communities and the communities at large. We strive to be exemplary students and young women on campus and in society.
Although we are an Asian-Interest organization, that does not mean we are exclusively Asian. We are though, pioneers and activists who enjoy a distinguished reputation for activism, scholarship, character, and leadership. We are women who still embrace the beliefs of our Founders by sharing universal sisterhood in their hearts and lives. We are an organization that seeks to educate and enlighten all people, regardless of race, about our struggles, our achievements, interests, and our identity. Together, as SYZters, we work together to sustain and develop the ambitions of Sigma Psi Zeta Sorority, Inc.
